Regular six weekly carving course

Carving in Thermalite at Balabrook Retreat

Participants to the retreat will  bring something collected from nature or a sketch/photo of the surrounding countryside to create either a 3D mini sculpture i.e. leaf ,flower ,snail shell or a 2D relief carving of a scene of choice.

The material we use is thermalite for the 3D sculpture which is soft andĀ  to carve with small chisels and files. The Scenes can be carved from pre castĀ plaster or Thermalite. Please book through south street collective.

Air Dried Clay Classes

In these classes you will learn to create 3D forms and vessels without the need for firing pieces in a kiln .[arthouselink] The group is an open invite for adults and families and is usually Saturday mornings or after 4pm weekdays.

Skills included in this session

hand building – using clay we will form shapes that will be made into sculptures

slab building- You will make a box with a lid

clay printing – Using natural materials you will print into the clay

coiling – making coil pots

pinch pots -Simplest pot to make bust most satisfying to make !

joining clay-You will learn to join clay so it doesnt crack

Regular six weekly carving course

Whether you are a beginner or someone who has carved before this is a chance to meet up regularly with like minded people to create a sculpture of your choice. Some materials are provided but if you need a specific type of stone get in touch for a list of suppliers.
